New Make Up Bags

29 04 2009

Preparation for Sunday’s fair continues; yesterday and today I’ve been working on loads of new Make Up Bag, Wash Bags or Cosmetic Bags, how ever you prefer to call them.  To be honest it is such a pleasure to be sewing with my new machine and sooooo much quicker.  I could spend all day, every day sewing.  But I can’t really let all my other duties, like writing the blog, fall behind ;-)

These are not only cute and colourful but also very practical; they all have a plastic lining so if something were to spill, it wont reuin the bag.  They are great for carrying a few bits in your handbag or they make a cute yet practical decoration in the bathroom.

So I hope to see you at Lokale Helden on Sunday.  If you are not from the area, you will find many cute Make Up Bags on my on-line shop, on my Esty shop or even on my Dawanda shop.

Make Up Bags

5 02 2009

I’ve been working on these funky make up bags today in preparation for next week.  So what is so special about next week, you may ask…

Well, next Tuesday I will be going to ‘designe, kleine’ (a shop that stocks my bags here in Frankfurt) to meet with Susanne (the owner) and a film crew! Yes, you read that correctly!  And as I am being introduced when visiting the shop to stock up my display-box, I thought that I should make some super colourful ones that everyone will notice.

Back in August we were also filmed, this can be viewed on my ‘Press’ page.  This time it is for a different channel and show; Wirstschaftwunder is the name of the show on ZDF. They want to show her shop with its unique concept where small designers and artists can rent a box to sell their products. But they also want to show that that same designer/artist also sells stuff on Dawanda and website. And that person will be me!

To be honest I am really proud to have been chosen, I hope that doesn’t sound to0 arrogant. Though I must also admit that I am already a little nervous.  So stay tuned, as soon as I know when it will be aired I shall let you know and I will try to get a copy as I did last time.

And of course if you like these then they shall be for sale in the shop from Tuesday on.

New Make Up Bags

22 01 2009

Loads of cute, new, little make up bags.  These are not only pretty but also very practical as they all have a plastic lining so if something should spill it wont ruin the bag and you can easily wash it out.  All of these are one-of-a-kinds just like the larger bags.

See anything you like? I hope so, all of these plus many more are available on my website. So why not check it out ;-)

New SALE Category

13 01 2009

I’m happy to say that one of the biggest points on my ‘To do’ list I mentioned last week can now be crossed off. :-)  I have created a new category on my Website offering many bags at discounted prices.  The reason why they are on sale is because I have since changed the patterns and these are the last ones left in these styles.

For example the two messenger bags have denim straps rather than black polyester ones, which I think looks better but this means that they are non-adjustable.

Another example are the make up bags.  The two on sale are both sooooo cute but again I now make them differently.  This is your chance to get a one-of-a-kind ALEX original handbag at a cheap, cheap price!  Hopefully you find something you like.

In the SALE you will also find a super nice shoulder bag, a triangular bag and some funky totes or shopping bags. So have fun shopping!

Christmas Markets

27 11 2008

It’s definitely starting to feel like Christmas! It’s not only cold but yesterday the Frankfurt Christmas Market started. This coming Saturday also starts the traditional Christkindlesmarkt in Karlsruhe.  And Sunday is the first Advent.

karlsruhe_christmas_market2Karlsruhe is a little less than 150 km south of here.  And why I’m mentioning this market in particular is quite simple, someone will be selling my bags there.  It might not be the biggest or the most famous Christmas in Germany, but it’s still a Christmas Market.

This all came about when a few months ago I was contacted by some girls who wanted to offer something a little different than the typical Christmas decorations and sweets.  They wanted to offer the public all sorts of handmade gifts made here in Germany.  I thought it was a great idea.

To be honest I had even thought of applying to the one here in Frankfurt myself, but the costs involved and the opening times put me off.  First of all, I don’t know if it’s the same in Karlsruhe but here you need your own hut or shed.  You can buy one, but they don’t come cheap, plus what do you do with it the other 11 months of the year? I live in a flat, we do have some storage in the cellar but nothing big enough for a whole shed.  You also have to get it on location and build the thing… The other option is to rent one of course, but that’s like paying double the rent. So much per meter width at the market plus so much per day for the shed.  And where to you rent one of these things from, I mean it’s not like picking up a DVD for the night…  The second issue was the opening times, it’s open everyday for a month from early til late.  So I wouldn’t have time to produce for a whole month.  So for me it simply wasn’t an option as I make all the bags and sell them myself.

karlsruhe_christmas_marketJennie and Katrin will be able to share the chores; even maybe take the odd day off. Plus they will mostly be selling other people’s products, so production doesn’t become an issue.  Still I think that it will be a lot of work.  They will certainly deserve their Christmas holidays after a whole month. As much as snow makes it nice and Christmasy as well as gets everyone into the holiday season, I’m sure that they are hoping that it’s not too cold.  I wish them a good month and I hope they sell all my bags! In their sortiment they have my small pursesmake up bags and messenger bags.  Why not go and see them for yourself, they will be on Lammstrasse.

Here are several of the newly created Make Up Bags that I mentioned last week, these can now be found on My Dawanda Shop. Why not go and have brows, these would make great little Christmas presents ;-)

Here are also a few pictures to wet your appetite.

New Make Up Bags

24 10 2008

I must admit that I am very proud of myself.  It might sounds a little arrogant but on Monday I set out to make 40 new make up bags this week; it’s now almost noon on Friday and I’ve managed it!  Very, very pleased with myself.  Doing them in a chain rather than one at a time was much better and quicker. Now I just have to decide which will go to Karlsruhe along with the small purses I made last week, which will go onto my Dawanda shop and which will accompany me to all the fairs.  My first fair of the season is actually tomorrow so it’s good that I finished early as I still have to pack and prepare for that.

I guess it’s hard to see but if there are any you like and can’t come to see me at any fairs or don’t want to miss out, then simply contact me!

Work in progress

22 10 2008

Well, I’m getting there slowly but surely. Last week I was really pleased with myself as I had set out to produce 60 small purses in preparation for the Christmas Markets and different fairs that I hope to participate in the coming weeks and months.  And I actually managed it!  For this week the plan is 40 make up bags.  They take much longer to produce hence 40 and not 60.

I’m going towards it in a very different way though.  Normally I make a bag from start to finish then move on to the next one.  This time I’m trying something different and I hope that it saves time and effort in the long run.  So far I have done the first step for all 40 bags, it’s actually taken three days to get to this point.  But tomorrow when I start with the next step I think (or rather hope) that it will go much quicker. As I said before, the plan is to finish all of these this week as at the weekend I’ll be at a fair and next week I need to start on the messenger bags.  Ahhhhh, the stress of Christmas! And it’s still 2 months away!!!  :-)

New small purses

29 09 2008

On Friday I made some new small purses and make up bags to change/refresh what I had in my box at designe, kleine! It seems like that’s all I sell there.  The bigger bags seem to stay there such a long time :-(   I guess that it’s a little hard as it has to be the right person for the right bag, as not many fit in the box they don’t have much choice.  Oh well.

I love the purple make up bag at the top left. Which is your favourite?
