Well, to be totally honest I also wanted to keep the second one as it is sosoooooooo colourful. You need to for every mood and outfit don’t you… But I can’t keep them all…
Here are a few more funky bags! I added these to my site yesterday along with some new messenger bags. It feels great to be sewing and producing again. I was without a sewing machine for near a month. I have A LOT to catch up with. So, I’ll keep this short and get back to sewing, I hope to have many more bags for you tomorrow. My sewing machine is still on the blink!!!
I’m getting rather fed up and still can’t get much done, as my sewing machine is still in the workshop. Ok, so I was extremely lucky that it broke only 2 days before the warranty ran out but that is already over 3weeks ago now and there is still no sign of it. When I called last Monday they said that I should have it back by the end of the week… Now they are saying that it was sent all the way back to the manufacturer and it should take at least one more week. That is a really long if you think about it.
I was (or rather; am) lucky enough that a friend has lent me her machine and that has been super helpful but I don’t want to sew anything too thick as to break hers one too. There are just so many more small purses that I can sew… Well, that’s not entirely true, they do sell well so I guess preparing some for the fairs to come, even the years to come wouldn’t hurt… I just need to get different materials so that they don’t all end up looking the same. There’s also the fact that it’s not a very good quality machine and is not as accurate as mine, which means that I’m not always happy with the results.
Maybe it would be time to think about getting a stronger, more stable machine like and industrial type one. But which one? And have you seen how much they cost? There seems to be two basic types, the normal looking thing like my own but computerized or the huge heavy duty things with proper motors which are built into their own table or unit. I’ve tried looking them up but the terminology is just flying over my head and don’t seem to be able to find what I really need.

What a day!
What an experience!
To be totally honest I’m glad it’s over.
Here are some pictures of the film crew that were here yesterday.
First they interviewed me… That was awkward! It felt like all of a sudden I couldn’t speak any German whatsoever. I was really struggling to put my thoughts into words.
After the interview they filmed me sewing, cutting material, sewing on buttons, trying on bags, etc, etc. Every action was filmed several times from different angles. Then they filmed the bags and the workshop. They even went to my workplace, the English school where I work part time, to film there. For me that was the most difficult and embarrassing part as it was in front of and with other people.
The report or story shows all the different angles of Susanne’s and my job; her with her shop (designe, kleine!), the contact with customers and designers, but also her part time work as an architect. And me with the production of bags, the internet site and online shops as well as a part time job to make ends meet. I like this concept as it shows our real lives and puts it all into perspective. It demonstrates that its not all easy and fun but there is a lot of work involved.
The show ’Wirtschaftswunder‘ will be aired in about two weeks on the ’ZDF-infokanal‘ which is available on satellite TV. I’ll let you know when I have the exact date and time.
Not the 200th entry as that was a few weeks/months ago but 200th small purse!
Wow! That’s quite a few different little purses ones isn’t it? Just like with all my larger bags, every single one is different and unique. Sure some might look similar at first glance but they are never the same, either the zipper is of a different colour, or the back or the lining. They can also be used for whatever you like; a few make up things, money, business cards, blackberries, etc. etc. your imagination is the limit. I’ll be taking these to ‘designe, kliene’ this afternoon, so if there are any you like make sure to pop over there some time soon.
Just between you and me, I’m somewhat nervous about the filming this afternoon, if you didn’t read last week’s post then you might not know that today and tomorrow Susanne from ‘designe, kleine!’ and I will be filmed for a short TV show. I didn’t sleep well thinking about what they might ask and how best I could answer all the questions in German. Anyway, I can’t improve my vocabulary or the way I look or dress in just a few hours so there’s no real point worrying. (Easier than done!) I’ll let you know when it will be aired and will try to get a copy as last time to post on here.

I’ve been working on these funky make up bags today in preparation for next week. So what is so special about next week, you may ask…
Well, next Tuesday I will be going to ‘designe, kleine’ (a shop that stocks my bags here in Frankfurt) to meet with Susanne (the owner) and a film crew! Yes, you read that correctly! And as I am being introduced when visiting the shop to stock up my display-box, I thought that I should make some super colourful ones that everyone will notice.
Back in August we were also filmed, this can be viewed on my ‘Press’ page. This time it is for a different channel and show; Wirstschaftwunder is the name of the show on ZDF. They want to show her shop with its unique concept where small designers and artists can rent a box to sell their products. But they also want to show that that same designer/artist also sells stuff on Dawanda and website. And that person will be me!
To be honest I am really proud to have been chosen, I hope that doesn’t sound to0 arrogant. Though I must also admit that I am already a little nervous. So stay tuned, as soon as I know when it will be aired I shall let you know and I will try to get a copy as I did last time.
